Wood chunks
Wood Chips and Chunks
Stems of trees are hacked or chipped to a fraction of between 5 and 200 mm. Smaller parts are being called chips, for the bigger parts(80 to 200mm) we use the term chunks. The density of this material is 250 to 350 kg/m3. the moisture content is below 60% Chunks are particularly suited as a structural material underneath other bio filter media or as an very open air flow layer underneath compost to let air filled with oxygen trough easily. Also in bio filters this structure assures a longer lasting air flow so the micro-organisms in upper layers do their job perfectly. Finer chips are used in the upper layers of bio filters.
